Moodbidri, Apr 10: Degrees were conferred on 1,856 students who graduated through educational institutions under Alva's Education Foundation here, on the evening of Saturday, April 8.
As many as 1,025 students under Mangalore University, 505 falling under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), and 326 of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) received their degree certificates. Fifty-two rank holders falling under Mangalore University and eight rank holders of RGUHS were felicitated on this occasion.
Vice chancellor of Tumkur University, A H Rajasab, who participated as chief guest, drove home the point that skill and knowledge get exemplified when they are accompanied by high standards of morality. He advised students to cultivate interest in research at an early age when studying in colleges. "Research is never an accident. It is backed by lot of hard work and thinking process. When compared to the economic power of the country, the number of people getting educated is low in our country. In other nations, we normally observe that educational sector grows in tune with the financial growth of the country. Particularly, the undivided Dakshina Kannada district has been at the top in education sector, which depicts high standard of education being imparted by institutions here," he observed. He exhorted that educated people to have high values in life and also give attention to environmental conservation to facilitate other life forms also to thrive in the world.
President of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, who presided over the function, hailed Alva's students coming under Mangalore University, VTU and RGUHS for having achieved great milestones in various sectors like education, sports and culture. Informing that the institution has received over 15,000 applications for admission, he analyzed that this shows the extent of response one can expect if high standards are maintained and good environment for education is created.
Trustees of the foundation, Jayashree Amarnath Shetty and Vivek Alva, apart from principals of various colleges under Alvas were present.
Dr Reeshma Shetty of Alva's Ayurveda College, and Abrara of Alva's Engineering College, shared their experiences of student life in Alva's. Artha Perla presented the programme.
