Udupi, Apr 9 : A police constable stands suspended after he defended his pregnant wife from eve teasers.
The name of constable is Prakash who worked at Malpe police station.
As per details available, When Prakash had visited a clinic as his wife was pregnant on April 5. While on the way, he went to an ATM to withdraw money when his wife remained outside. At that time, a person named Kumar and his friend came and teased her. She immediately went inside the ATM and informed Prakash about it. Prakash, without saying anything, took his wife by bike. But Kumar and his friend followed the couple. When they teased her again and tried to pull her hand, Prakash stopped his bike.
Then Prakash confronted the culprits and also sought help from Hoysala police squad. Later when the culprits were taken to police station, Prakash allegedly slapped them.
Kumar works at the fish meal factory owned by district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj. Minister’s wife reportedly called constable Prakash through the help of sub-inspector Damodar and asked the matter to be closed without any police complaint.
Subsequently, Kumar went to a hospital, got treatment and complained to police that he was assaulted by constable Prakash in public. Probably based on this, Prakash received suspension order from his superiors.
Prakash, in turn, went to Udupi women police station and complained through her wife about the eve teasing incident. She has sought protection from police.
Meanwhile, an audio clip in which Prakash narrated his ordeal to the state police personnel union president Shashidhar has gone viral. In that conversation Prakash has explained how he was treated by his superiors and also how he was forced to enter into a compromise at the fish meal factory by the wife of minister.
