Abu Dhabi, Apr 8: Indian Kaleidoscope, an exhibition of paintings of renowned Indian artists was inaugurated at The Park Rotana in Abu Dhabi on the evening of 7th April 2017. Organised by Gallerie Orchid Mangalore, the show was inaugurated by Leo Rodrigues, entrepreneur, Abu Dhabi.
Maricelle Gonzalez, coordinator of the programme introduced William Pais, curator of Gallerie Orchid and stressed on the purpose holding the exhibition. Welcoming the gathering, William Pais, outlined the objective of bringing the works of different Indian artists to the UAE. Having organised more than 60 exhibitions back home, this is the first exhibition by the Gallery in a foreign land.
Stressing on the importance of collecting art, William Pais said that the art collection reflects finer taste and presence of art is a constant company for life. He quoted the words of well-known author and art critique Giselle Mehta that art stands better chance than any object of luxury. A piece of automobile however luxurious will only serve up to transporting one from one place to the other, but owning a piece of art reflects finer taste of a cultured connoisseur.
Lighting the lamp to symbolize the opening of the exhibition, Leo Rodrigues said that its interesting to understand artists’ idea behind the painting and make a connection with it. Being an ardent collector of art himself, Leo called upon the gathering to support art and artists. He further elaborated that a company of artwork gives solace in troubled times and gives a soothing touch to the senses.
Leo was accompanied by James Mendonca, entrepreneur, Alwyn Pinto, president of Mangalore Konkans, Dolphy Vaz, president of Konkani Cultural organisation (KCO), and Valerian Almeida on the dias.
The exhibition showcases the works of renowned Indian artists like M F Hussein, Shantharam Hattarki, Philip D’Mello, Ramesh Pachpande, Deviprasad Rao, Wilson Souza, Jeevan A S, Sharath, Anil Devadiga and Shashi Bane.
