Chamarajanagar, Apr 8: At a time when BJP complained to the Election Commission about misuse power by the Congress government, requested it to post paramilitary forces in some booths, and complained about not taking action over complaint about Congress leader, Laxmi Hebbalkar, distributing money to voters, Rs 2.96 lac in cash was found in a car which was used by BJP leader and former minister, M P Renukacharya, for election campaigning.
This cash, which was not backed by any records, was found from the car near Hirikati in Gundlupet taluk of the district on Friday April 7.
Renuakacharya had visited Shindanapura village after hearing the rumour that cash belonging to Congress party was found there. But disappointment was in store for him there as the rumours were unsubstantiated. It was 5.15 pm then, and Congress activists objected to his presence in the constituency after the deadline of 5 pm set by the Election Commission. So, Renukacharya left the constituency for Gundlupet.
Once he reached Gundlupet, Renukacharya got down from the car he had used for campaigning during the day, and travelled in his own car towards Mysuru. The Scorpio car he had used for campaigning followed his car. When some Congress activists intercepted this car near Hirikati, they found cash amounting to Rs 2.96 lac inside the car.
Renukacharya, who was seated in the car ahead, continued his journey without getting entangled in the controversy.
