Mangaluru, Apr 7: Urwa police on Thursday April 6, arrested two persons relating to the assault on assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Urwa police station Aithappa.
Shamir Katipalla (27) and Niyaz Katipalla (20) are the persons arrested.
ASI Aithappa was assaulted on the morning of Wednesday, April 5. He is still taking treatment at a hospital in city for the head injuries sustained.

Shamir is an accused in a rape case on a medical student from a Deralakatte medical college. He had secured bail recently. He also faces several cases of murder, attempt to murder and assault on police in jail.
Niyaz too faces 8 cases in different police stations.
CCB police are investigating the case and have subjected both the accused into rigorous interrogations. Some police sources had said that the assault on ASI could have been a retaliation act against the lathi charge that took place on Popular Front Of India (PFI) members on Tuesday at city police commissioner’ s office.
ASI was assaulted by two persons in the early morning with iron rods while he was on duty.
