Mangaluru, Apr 6: Enraged by the activities of a goat, a youth thrashed an old couple and their son living in the neighbourhood with a rod, leaving them bruised and injured. The incident happened near Belaringe, a little away from Kinya school, Ullal, during late night on Wednesday April 5. All the three, who suffered injuries in this incident, stand admitted into a private hospital at Deralakatte where they are being treated.
Janardhana Alva (70), his wife, Pushpavati (52), and son, Ajit (30), living at Kinya Belaringe, were at the receiving end of this brutal attack. The family members have accused a neighbour, Safaq (28), of launching this attack with support from his brother.
Safaq who arrived at the courtyard of Janardhana when the family was watching a television programme on Wednesday night, began to hit their dog with a rod. When Janardhana objected to this, Safaq reportedly turned his ire towards the senior citizen and started to attack him with the rod. When his son, Ajit, tried to block him, Safaq attacked him too with his hands, it is said. When Pushpavati came forward to defend her family, Safaq also beat her up. It is said that Safaq's brother supported this attack during which death threat was also posed.
It is said that a goat belonging to Safaq's family used to enter the backyard of Janardhana's house and devour shoots and saplings of areca nut. As this problem continued for several days, Janardhana, who was aggrieved, visited the residence of Safaq and asked his father to tether the animal. Still, the family did not confine the goat, and the goat entered the courtyard of Janardhana as usual on Wednesday too. The family members had got angry, and had chased the goat away. Safaq, who was enraged at this development, attacked Janardhana and others with a rod, the injured persons stated.
Ullal police have registered a case. They are investigating the complaint.
