Kasargod, Ap6 6: The hartal on Thursday April 6, for which a call was given by United Democratic Front and BJP, protesting against atrocities committed on the family members of an engineering student, Jishnu Pranoy, has got full support from the people.
The family members of Jishnu, a student of Nehru Engineering College at Palakkad Pambady who committed suicide recently, had planned hunger strike in front of the office of the DGP to register their protest against the failure of the police to arrest the head of the college, who is said to be guilty in the case.
Buses are off the roads. Almost all the shops and establishments have been closed. A handful of private vehicles alone took to roads today. Attendance in government offices has been thin.
In the backdrop of the call for Hartal, police security has been beefed up. So far, no untoward incidents have been reported. Activists of both United Democratic Front and BJP have decided to take out a protest procession in the town today.
Kumble glram panchayat limit has been exempted from the purview of Hartal call, as the annual festival is on there. Kallar and Panathadi gram panchayat too have been exempted as a camp for endosufan-affected people is in progress there.
