Udupi, April 6: Renowned chef Vikas Khanna will revisit Manipal as chief guest at the ongoing 'Utsav' in Manipal University and he will gift his book 'Utsav – A Culinary Epic of Indian Festivals' to chancellor Dr Ramdas M Pai. Besides the celebrity chef himself, the crew making a biopic based on his biography 'Buried Seeds – A Chef’s Journey' by Karan Bellani, will visit WGSHA and Manipal, to completely capture the essence of his journey there. This was made known to media persons here at Fortune Inn Valley View on Wednesday, April 5.
The popular Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna is an alumnus of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration. Why buried seeds was chosen as the title of the book which portrays his amazing journey from humble settings in Punjab to his present status in the world was explained by the chef himself.
Suave and gentle, Vikas said, “The book is all about my journey from Punjab where I grew up, my years in Manipal University and at WGSHA where I studied to become a chef, and thereafter, all the ups and downs I have been through to become what I am today. It’s all there in the book.” He likens his life to a seed which has to be buried to grow into a tree. “And so the title of the book,” he said.
That book is being made into a documentary by a team from the US. The entire crew is visiting Manipal for a few days to capture the images of places which was dear to Vikas when he was studying in Manipal University. They will be shooting at Krishna Temple, the temple at Malpe and other places.
Director of the documentary, Andrei Severny said that it is an amazing journey and inspiring story. Vikas said he was a little skeptical when Andrei came up with the idea of making a documentary. But today shooting for it is in the closing stages and it cannot be complete without WGSHA and Manipal figuring in it. “The documentary will not be complete without coming back home,” Vikas said. Vikas was of the sixth course and passed out in 1994. Andrei hopes to premiere it at Cannes this May.
