Udupi, Apr 6: "The fact that murder attempt was made on the deputy commissioner (DC) here in our district is regrettable. This act is highly condemnable. We should do everything within our command to ensure that goondaism is not allowed to get deep-rooted in our district. At the same time, it is surprising that the accused are still at large although the assault was undertaken by hundreds of people," said head of Paryaya Pejavar Math here, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 5 to media persons about the murder attempt on DC, Priyanka Mary Francis, and assistant commissioner, Shilpa Nag on the night of Sunday at Kandlur near Kundapur, he severely condemned the incident.
"I condemn this incident with heavy heart because it has happened in our district. If there are differences over the sand extraction policies, they should be sorted out through dialogues and discussions. There is no scope for violence in a democratic society," he felt.
In his response, former minister and Kaup MLA, Vinay Kumar Sorake, noted that there has been widespread condemnation about the attack on the DC cutting across party lines. He said that the district in-charge minister is unable now to leave behind the responsibility of electioneering entrusted to him at Gundlupet by the party. "Although he is not physically present here, he has taken up the issue at the government level and asked the concerned to act against the culprits. Even the chief minister has expressed regret about the incident and given directions to arrest the accused," he stated.
