Bangkok, Apr 5: Thai Kannada Balaga (TKB), an association of Kannadigas living in Thailand, organized and celebrated a cultural get-together on the occasion of Ugadi on Sunday April 2 at Rembrandt Hotel, Bangkok.
The colorful celebration was presided over by the DPR UN-ESCAP, Indian embassy deputy chief of mission Abbagani Ramu, with Susheel Kumar Saraff, president of ITCC (India -Thai Chamber of Commerce) as chief guest. TKB president K V Patil, secretary Smitha Laxminarayana, working committee members Ravi Bovi, Suprabha Shetty and Sandeep Shanbhag were present. Senior members Shivayogimath and Uma Shivayogimath lit the lamp.
Thai Kannada Balaga kids' fashion show, 'Jodi 1' and 'Mr Cool' competition were special attractions of the event, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Men, women and children rendered special cultural performances of Bollywood, folk songs, dances etc. Mementos and certificates to the children and other winners were handed over by Pushpa Abbagani Ramu, Pushpa Saraff and senior members of Thai Kannada Balaga.
President K V Patil welcomed the gathering and Abbagani Ramu and Sushil Saraff delivered the Ugadi messages and appreciated the people from Karnataka for their role in keeping the culture alive in a foreign land and encouraged all to attend the 2nd International Yoga day to be held on June 22 this year.
Twenty-five new members registered this year, showing their strength and support to TKB.
Former presidents of Thai Kannada Balaga, Mukund Rao, M B Ravi, Mohandas, Muttu, Vinaya Rai, Habibulla Saheb and Vincent Daniel Pinto and other senior members were also present for the Ugadi celebrations.
Suprabha Shetty, Vinol Joy D'Souza conducted games and compered the whole event. Smitha Laxminarayana delivered the vote of thanks.
