Udupi: District Koraga Community demands immediate arrest of illegal sand miners at protest

Udupi, Apr 5: The members of District Koraga committee staged a protest in front of the clock tower here on Tuesday, April 4 condemning the heinous incident with the district officials during the late hours of Sunday, April 2 at Kandlur village Kundapur taluk.

Susheela Nada, president of Koraga Abhivruddhi Sangagala Okkuta, Kundapur addressing the protestors said, "The incident that had happened at Kundlur, was condemnable. It was a heinous act done by sand miners. They attacked women government officials while on duty. Severe action must be taken up against the culprits. This incident created a fearful atmosphere among government officials, especially the women, of having no protection of life. The government should take this issue seriously."





The committee members put a forth few demands for fulfilment -  

1. The attackers, who were involved in the sand mafia, directly and indirectly, should be identified by the police and arrested soon. The police department should take up emergency action against attackers without any delay.

2. Illegal sand mafia must be brought under control all over the district and strict action must be taken against the perpetrators.

3. Free sand should be provided to families of Dalits, Koragas and deprived communities who are going to construct houses under government plans.

A copy of the memorandum was handed over to the superintendent of police, after the peaceful protest.

Bogra, president of district Koraga committee, Vishwanath Pethri, Narayan and others, were present.
