Mangaluru: 21-year-old engineering student of Sahyadri college commits suicide

Mangaluru, Apr 2: A college student allegedly committed suicide at her residence at Akash Bhavan here on Sunday April 2.

The deceased has been identified as Manisha (21), daughter of Chandrashekar.

Manisha was a student of Sahyadri college and was pursuing third year of civil engineering.

Sources said that she was suffering from hearing and eyesight problems since childhood and was under treatment. It is said that she was depressed because of these health issues.

When she was alone at home, Manisha hanged herself with a shawl from the ceiling fan in the dining hall of her house.

She left behind a death note, sources said.

Kavoor police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    RIP!! Empathize with her parents!

    Could be that she was forced to pursue engg by her parents! With hearing n eyesight problems it would be definitely tough for her! And with the capitalistic times we r living peer n societal comparison n pressure would have been too much for her to bear!

    I wonder whether a student, having the disabilities she had, could be admitted to such a course??

    People, especially of the present generation, are facing various pressures right from their childhood, due to high expectations from their parents/teachers, as well as, due to heavy syllabus, peer pressure, highly fast-paced and competitive environment, the negative effects of the electronic media, etc.

    They are facing heavy mental pressure in a materialistic world, with dwindling moral support, breakdown in joint families, and falling moral values in society. Hope society seriously looks into these burning issues, and takes the right steps (strengthening family bonds, providing counselling, etc.) to nip this rising problem in the bud.

    Good Day to all the readers.

    I feel very sad for Manisha who lost her life at a young age. May her soul rest in peace and almighty give strength and courage to her parents to bear the loss of their daughter.

    I have withheld my name and identity in this case as I am a regular in writing my comments in Daijiworld.

    I am a victim of cancer in 2008, who treated with several radiations and chemotherapy. As a result of which I lost my saliva and taste buds for rest of my life. The effect of radiations and chemotherapy has taken a toll on my vital organs and this makes me weak and vulnerable. Due to this, sometimes I go into deep depression, anxiety and several times thinking of committing suicide. And again add to my miseries, in 2013, I was afflicted with pneumonia and my health was in a very devastating stage. I was going through very tough time everyday with lot of mental agony, embarrassment and physical problems forcing me to commit suicide. Everyday I am thinking why should I live and is it worth living?

    However, ending ones own life and committing suicide is not the ultimate solution. Now that it is nearly 9 years I have faced all these difficulties and tribulations and hoping for a good day every day and giving inspiration to all those who are going through anxiety, sadness and depression.

    I wish all readers and commentators a healthy and wealthy life.

    I wish to express deep empathy with you. I was once very seriously ill, too. Fortunately however, its being a non-malignant condition, hope was always in sight. However, the illness itself was unimaginably painful and the administration of steroids made me vulnerable to all kinds of opportunistic infections. The financial burden too was ruinous. and I was extremely demoralized. However, not at any point of time did I lose faith in God nor fail to see the preciousness of life itself. Besides, I planned for the future when the surgical option would cure me of my illness. And I do believe both faith and optimism saw me through. Therefore, I join you in earnestly exhorting all those who are suffering in any serious or chronic way not to lose sight of hope and to bear in mind that finally we are in God's hands.

    I pray for your continued good health.

    Taking the case of Manisha here, some have commented saying 'Why, 'Suicide is not a solution', 'Say no to suicide' etec... However, when an affected person goes through deep depression due to a major illness or health issues, it is beyond control for him/her to stand for it. Only the one who is ready to face will be a fighter...

    Very sad news.
    This is the age where students learn to face difficult situations and strive to come out of it. This is where the mental strength of the person is tested. But is suicide a solution to all the problems? Just look at those people who want to live but won't have much life wit them. Those people who lost everything in their life but still don't lose hope and rebuilt their life and are living happily. Just use this manthra that "This time will pass, my time will come". Look people , always remember, whatever happens it happens for a reason. So never give up on life so easily. Show the world that u are not a loser . U too hv capabilities despite of any disability. Make use of this wonderful life to the most. Achieve something in life. Be a reason for a smile. Be a reason for others motivation. Say no to suicides.

    Now is the Exam season. We hear lot about suicides both girls and boys. Actually this should not happen. schools and Colleges have to give proper guidance and solution and counselling the students. Though you fail why take such a serious step. attempt for the second time and come out in flying colours. Your future life will be beautiful instead of killing yourself for such silly reasons losing your valuable and precious life. So other boys and girls (students) please note down this. By this suicidal step you are tormenting your parents and everybody. Desist from doing so.

    Whenever I got depressed & felt that I should die . I stopped & looked back at the life of my mother. The suffering she went through & the trouble she had in her life made me to wonder. My pain just melted away & I wondered how she was able to surmount this. She lived a life of 77years. Any children or person who thinks of suicide should look back & think of their parents. their sufferings or success will make them realise what living is.

    in Dysp suicide there was death note by Dysp Ganapathi.
    in Arunachal Pradesh CM suicide, there was 60 Page death note.

    u didnt demand for any investigation.

    Dear Friends, suicide is not a solution for problems. In one angle its looks right for you, but your act will give life long suffering, pain to your parents or your dependants. This is a very cruel act from you.
    Life is not only exam results, love, job, marriage or finance. God granted us this earth to live happily without all those things.
    Most or Indian TV or movies are promoting suicide. If we are not familiar with those tasks then we never try that

    Why ?? :( Never ever ever give up your life people, no matter how hard the situation is . Do not kill yourself, think about the people who love you before you leave them and what they would have to go through. Death is inevitable but you can live the years you have been gifted.

    Cannot be judgemental on this stage, but i feel the parents should not force kid with hearing problems for professional courses. It is not about difficulty, but the atmosphere is bit different from regular degrees, not all from same city, etc. If they are made fun of by the other students on their disability it can lead to inferiority and frustrations....
