Bengaluru: Milk price to go up in state in new financial year

Daijiworld Media Network-Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Mar 31: Karnataka Milk federation (KMF) has hiked the milk price with effect from April 1, the first day of new financial year. It will become costlier by Rs 2 per litre in South Karnataka while in North Karnataka, it will see a hike of Re 1 per litre. The hike applies to curd also.

KMF has said that due to severe drought situation in the state, it has become difficult for farmers to collect sufficient fodder for cattle and the cost too has gone up. And accordingly the amount hiked, will be given directly to farmers to help them.

13 districts in North Karnataka will see a hike of Re 1 per litre while the other districts will see an increase of Rs 2 per litre. These 13 districts presently sell the milk at Re 1 higher per litre than other districts. Now onwards the entire state will have uniform price.

The decision to hike the price was taken on March 9 in the presence of Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju, said KMF officials.

All the milk producing federations are making profits. 60 lac litres of milk is produced a day in the state. Compared to last year, the production has come down by 1 lac litres per day.

Milk sellers or KMF will not benefit from the hike.

Is this rate hike warranted as K'Nataka is the costliest for milk in South India
Again, why not uniform rates in both South & North K'Nataka?

    SECOND GIFT FOR UGADI.
EVERY TIME DUE TO DROUGHT SITUATION IN ONE PART OR THE OTHER MILK PRICE IS HIKED BUT IT IS TEMPORARY. KMF SAYS INCREASE OF RS. 2 WILL GO TO MILK PRODUCERS. GOD ALONE KNOWS. WHEN ALL MILK FEDERATIONS ARE RUNNING UNDER PROFIT WHAT IS THE JUSTIFICATION TO PASS ON CONSUMERS ? MILK BEING A NECESSITY GOVT. IS NOT READY TO ABSORB LIKE POWER BUT STILL BOAST OF INTRODUCING BHAGYA'S AND CANTEEN TO MINT OUT OF IT. HOWEVER, THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHANCE. LET THEM DO FOR 10TH GENERATION.

It's absolutely bull. If its so that they gonna give to the farmers, let the State Government disclose to the general public correct statistics of farmers in Karnataka state to amount collected to revenue generated. Rs.2 hike will benefit someone's pocket for sure. Instead of unwanted development let them utilize the funds on development of fodder and more cattle grazing pastures. Agriculture land being converted to commercial or industrial bad thing. No wonder we headed for drought.
