Kundapur: School boy killed on spot as bus smashes into bicycle at Amasebail

Kundapur, Mar 28: A school boy was killed after a speeding bus rammed into his bicycle at Amasebail here on Tuesday March 28.

Vijay Naik (14), son of Laxman Naik, a resident of Hengavalli, was killed in the accident.

Vijay was a student of 8th standard at Government High School, Amasebail. He used to go to school cycling with his friends.

On Tuesday evening after school hours, as usual, Vijay left for home on his bicycle, but when he reached near Amasebail mosque, a speeding bus rammed into him, killing him on the spot.

The private bus was plying from Kundapur to Amasebail.

Vijay leaves behind his parents and two brothers. He was second among Laxman Naik's three sons.

Amasebail police have registered a case.

    Mr Shan / Evans, You both are correct in your opinion, but allowing a 8 Year old to ride a bicycle to School is not responsible on the parents part. 8 year old is not mature enough to ride bicycles on roads whether it be US, UAE or India.

    Horrible .was driver blind?Here is noted that a case is registered, but no driver is arrested why?he will abscond now.Take serious action against driver and he should pay compansation to the family of deceased boy,or bus owner.No pardon.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.May the soul of the deceased rest in peace.

    You are blaming only driver...... You are in UAE and rule is if a passenger sits in a car back seat they have to wear seat belt and if the child they have to sit in Child seat fixed to car, otherwise they will penalize the driver...... Here 8 year boy riding cycle on public road. Our system is wrong. Without guidance 8 year boy is allowed to ride cycle...... I say our Indian system is wrong.

    Shan, you are talking of Dubai but this happened in Kundapur, India. In India, even if they have rules, drivers don't care. You can in no way compare India with countries like UAE, middle east and other western countries.

    In rich countries they are more bothered about cycle/pedestrian paths than vehicle roads.But in our poor country we are more bothered about roads for vehicles. What is the necessity for cycle / pedestrian path. With this attitude we will never going to to develop and more and more people will die on roads itself.
