Bengaluru, Mar 28: The people from the state who have been going through tough time with higher summer heat this year, will have a new shock very soon with a hike in electricity tariff, it is learnt from reliable sources.
Sources said that the state government, through its electricity supply companies, has made all arrangements to hike the electricity charges with effect from April 1, the first day of the new financial year.
5 electricity supply companies had sent a proposal to Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) to hike the tariffs by Rs 1.20 per unit. As a procedure KERC had advertised in newspapers about it with an opportunity for consumers to file objections and suggestions.
As this ‘process’ is over now, KERC has come up with its new tariff list. Sources in KERC said that as the government has to spend more money to buy electricity due to severe drought in the state, there is no option left other than increasing the tariff.
It is yet to be seen how the consumers will respond to the ‘electric’ shock on the first day of new financial year.
