Bengaluru, Mar 27: A joint house panel of both houses of Karnataka legislature has recommended that women should not be hired for working in night shifts in Information Technology and Bio-Technology Companies in the State in order to ensure the safety of women employees.
The 21 members of the committee visited two major home-grown companies - Infosys and Biocon - and inspected working condition of women employees on November 9, 2016.
“In view of the safety of women employees”, the committee said companies have to make efforts to deploy women employees, at the maximum extent, for morning or afternoon shifts.
The committee headed by Congress MLA N A Harris, which was tabled in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has recommended hiring of men employees for night shifts.
The panel also looked into the spending of money under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) scheme by companies.
It recommended to the government to frame guidelines for effective utilisation of two per cent of profits for undertaking good social works under the CSR. Now, the government has not been monitoring utilization of funds under the CSR, it said.
