Bengaluru, Mar 27: A pregnant woman died from excessive bleeding at Victoria Hospital on Friday March 25 here. Overdose of abortion pills was the cause of death.
Radhamani (26) is the woman deceased.
As per reports, Radhamani was given an overdose of abortion pills by a midwife at Koratagere in Tumakuru after she decided to terminate her pregnancy. It is said that the decision of abortion was taken after learning that she had conceived a girl for the fourth time.
But the overdose of abortion pills caused excessive bleeding ad Radhamani was rushed to Victoria Hospital.
Soon after Radhamani was declared dead, her husband Ramaiah alleged that she was a victim of criminal medical negligence.
After subjecting to post-mortem on Saturday, Radhamani’s body was handed over to the family.
Midwife absconding
Midwife named Nagamma who gave the abortion pills to Radhamani is absconding.
The Koratagere police have booked Nagamma and are hunting for her.
Tumakuru district health officials met Radhamani’s husband and relatives. They also visited the nursing home in Koratagere where Radhamani was receiving treatment during her pregnancy to ascertain whether it followed the unlawful practice of sex determination.
A health official said an enquiry would be initiated into the entire case. The post-mortem report will determine the cause of death, he said.
