Mangaluru, Mar 25: A cameraman of a news channel who reportedly raped a girl after promising to marry was arrested by police personnel attached to Konaje station.
The arrested has been identified as Anup Jogi (26), who hails from Asaigoly village here and booked under stringent provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Anup, working as cameraman for a local television channel, reportedly introduced himself to the girl at one of the programmes. The girl, who happens to be a ninth standard student, stays with her parents in a rented house. Anup began to meet her repeatedly at her home, the family said. As per the complaint, he promised the girl of marriage before raping her.
Later, the cameraman resigned his work with the local channel and went to Bengaluru where he bagged job as cameraman in a private television channel. When the girl turned pregnant, the family members got in touch with women's organizations through whom the information was conveyed to women and child welfare department.
It is learnt that Anup was summoned to the city from Bengaluru. During the counselling, he reportedly confessed to his crime. He was produced in the court. The girl stands admitted into a hospital.
