Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Mar 25: Pushpavati (56), working a professor in the government PU college at Uppinangady in the taluk, succumbed to rabies. She was a close relative of Dakshina Kannada district BJP president, Sanjeeva Matandoor, and union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda. She died on way to Bengaluru on the night of Thursday March 23.

Death due to rabies has been uncommon now-a-days because of availability of effective medicines. It is gathered that Pushpavati, who was bitten by an unidentified cat about four months back when she was at home, did not give any serious thought to this incident. She was under immense work pressure in preparation for PU examination of late, and complained suddenly of acute backache three days back. She was admitted into a hospital.

When she started to behave strangely and began exhibiting symptoms of rabies, the family members recalled during discussions that Pushpavati was bitten by a cat. By the time the diagnosis was made, it was too late. Pushpavati was rushed to a hospital at Bengaluru but on the way, she breathed her last on Thursday night.

Pushpavati is survived by husband, a son and a daughter.
