Bengaluru : HC dismisses appeal against SSLC exam pattern 'change'

Bengaluru, Mar 25 (DHNS): The Karantaka High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal opposing the question paper pattern for this year’s Class 10 examination.

A few students who are scheduled to take their SSLC exams this year, had approached the court challenging the government’s decision to change the exam pattern. A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal dismissed the appeal after the government submitted that there was no change in the question paper pattern and that the only change was in the format of the question paper and answer sheets.

The government said that instead of one booklet having both questions and space for answers, this year, the question paper will be given separately and students can take them home. Separate answer sheets will also be provided.

Heated argument

There was a heated argument between Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and senior counsel K N Subba Reddy on Friday with regard to a civil contempt petition.

Reddy asked the chief justice to recuse himself from the matter, saying he was considered biased. But Justice Mukherjee refused to recuse himself and directed the petitioner to appeal against his order if he was not satisfied. The matter pertains to Alliance University, wherein Shreya Sanjeev had filed a contempt petition against the university’s former VC Madhukar G Angur. Madhukar, in an affidavit, had contended that he has no faith in the bench headed by the chief justice and requested him to recuse himself from hearing the matter. The bench later ruled in Madhukar's favour.
