St Joseph School Belman's Old Students' Meet on May 2

Media Release

Karkala, Mar 23: One of the most prestigious schools of Udupi district, St Joseph School of Belman, is all set to 'Old Students Meet 2017' on May 2. The school which has a history of more than 100 years, is proud to be placed third among the Kannada medium schools of the taluk for its student strength.

St Joseph School, started by Fr Nicholas Carniro in 1896 has been providing quality education adopting modern educational technology. Thousands of students of Belman and its neighbouring villages who were educated in this school are now serving in nook and corners of India and abroad. The 'Old Students Meet 2017' organised by the Old Students Association of St Joseph School,is an opportunity for the alumni to seek the blessings of the great teachers who shaped their lives as well as for a get together of their families.

At a time where Kannada Medium schools are on the path of decline, as a result of the policy of the government and the attitude of the parents to send their children to only English Medium Schools, St Joseph School is in the threshold of the celebration of its 120th year. The school wants its students to have quality education with all sophisticated facilities, like the students of English Medium Schools. They also want to have trained teachers to teach English from the first standard itself, at least one teacher to each class and modern teaching equipments.

To help the cause, the Old Students Association of the school aims to arrange finance for two school vehicles, solar system, kids playground, a fund to give remuneration to teachers for the next 5 years, drinking water facility and renovation of school play ground, garden, laboratory and library for the school which might cost approximately Rs 75 lacs. There are plans of a 'Post-Centenary Silver Jubilee Celebration' after five years as well.

Members of executive committee and Old Students Association including Fr Sunil Vegas, honorary president; Xavier D, treasurer; Pundalika Marate; secretary; Gregory Menezes; president; Wilfred Mendonca, president, Old Students Association of Mumbai; Rocky D’Silva, Sylvester Dmello, Prof Robert John D’Souza and Dayan D’Souza.
