Mangaluru, Mar 25: The Bengaluru police have succeeded in arresting two persons accused of stealing the service revolver belonging to Narasimha Murthy, gunman of Devanahalli MLA, Pilla Munishamappa.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dhanush and Vijay from Suratkal near here. They belong to 'Robbery Trip' gang. The police have recovered 16 cellphones and a revolver from their possession.
Addressing a press conference at Bengaluru, police commissioner, Praveen Sood, explained that after Pilla Munishamappa resigned from his post, Narasimha Murthy had to work relentlessly to control the mob since February 24 morning till late night. When going home after having dinner at a Dhaba, he slumped to his knees on account of exhaustion. Making use of the situation in which Murthy was found to be too weak to protest, the accused stole the service revolver, purse, and two cellphones from him, Sood explained.
The police investigation revealed that those involved with this theft were members of 'Robbery Trip' gang from the city, who use to travel to Bengaluru by motor bikes, and return after committing robbery and thefts there.
Out of the two arrested accused, Dhanush does building painting work for a living while Vijay works in an ice cream shop. Both had ventured into the field of rubbery and theft recently. Both the accused travelled to Bengaluru from the city on February 23 and hired a room at Vaishnavi Bar at Yeshwantpur. At around 11 pm on February 24, they consumed food and liquor at a Dhaba on Major Unnikrishnan Road. They found Narasimha Murthy lying unsconcious near the Dhaba. They picked his gun, cellphone and purse before returning their lodge, the police commissioner stated.
The police said that they zeroed in on the culprits on he basis of google map they used on the stolen cellphone. As the two did not know how to return to their lodge from near the Dhaba, they used google route map on the cellphone to reach the lodge. The police found that that map had ended at the lodge. On this basis, the police made inquiries at the lodge and came to know that two Mangaloreans had hired a room there and vacated it the next day of the incident.
