Bantwal: Firecracker unit owner booked for blast that claimed two lives

Bantwal, Mar 22: A case under the Explosives Act and sections 286 and 304 pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder stands registered at Vittal police station against Abdul Shukur N, owner of the unit where manufacture of country-made firecrackers was taking place. Shukur happens to be the son of the late Ibrahim Saheb fom Nooji near Kambalabettu, widely known in the area with the name, 'Garnal Saheb'.

Shukur, it transpires, holds permission to run the firecrackers unit. Currently he is in a foreign country. Shukur has been named in the complaint and accused of negligence.

After the blast, several pieces of severed limbs were recovered from around the spot of the blast late night on Monday and again on Tuesday morning. All of them were said to belong to Sundar Poojary Karyadi who was killed in the blast. Forensic science laboratory's staff including Dr Gautham, Dr B C Raveendra, and others had arrived on the spot to inspect the site and collect evidences. The police personnel destroyed chemicals and finished firecrackers found in a nearby shed by immersing them in water as a precautionary measure.

Sundar Poojary, who was killed, had married four years back. He had raised a loan to treat his mother, who was suffering from ill health, but she could not be saved. He was working in this unit since the last 18 years, and his family lost its only earning member.
