Mangaluru, Mar 22: Drishya N Shetty, daughter of Nagesh Shetty, residing near Thokkottu over-bridge, has made her parents proud by securing seventh rank in Karnataka state in Ayurvedic medical degree, BAMS. Nagesh Shetty happens to be the driver of a tempo rickshaw which he operates around Thokkottu area.
Drishya, second daughter of Nagesh Shetty and Shamanta Shetty couple, had appeared for the final BAMS examination conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences through ALNR Rao Memorial Ayurveda Medical College, Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district.
Drishya had got her primary education through Rotary English Medium School at Sakleshpur and completed high school education by getting distinction through St Jospeh's higher secondary school. She got her PU education in St Agnes PU College in the city before joining the said college to pursue medical degree in Ayurveda.
Drishya says she had not been reading the whole day for the final examination, but had put in hard work and took care not to waste time unnecessarily. She gives full credit to her parents for her success, as they had provided full encouragement and support to her. She confesses that she did not get the marks she expected, but the fact that she was among the rank holders has made her very happy. "I plan to pursue higher education in medical service, and then to serve the people backed by values of social justice," she says. Dr Drishya N Shetty continues with reading novels, which happens to be one among several of her hobbies.
Drishya's mother, Shamanta Shetty, who had earlier served as panchayat development officer, has been promoted. She now works in the computer division of zilla panchayat. She is elated at the achievement of her daughter, and gives credit to her husband for unstinting support given to his daughter which helped Drishya excel in studies.
Nagesh Shetty has been an active volunteer of Congress Sevadal. He has been involved with various organizations in Thokkottu region, and served as volunteer for a number of social service initiatives.
