Mangaluru, Mar 20: “Besides providing economic and social security, government jobs create an opportunity for social work and give prestigious positions in the society,” said Coorg deputy commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D'Souza.

He was the chief guest during the awards ceremony of Fudar Prathistan, an organization of social work for Canara Konkani Catholics, held at Milagres Hall here on Sunday, March 19.

“Educational institutes established by Konkani Catholics have good reputation and students studying in these institutes have good future. They also secure excellent jobs. However there is scarcity of leadership among Konkani Catholics. There is a misconception that leadership means only politics. It is wrong. There are several areas for leadership. There are various departments in government also,” he said.

Mangaluru diocese bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D' Souza inaugurated the programme and unveiled the website of Fudar Prathistan. He commended the activities of Fudar Prathistan and conveyed his best wishes. Prathistan president John D' Silva presided over the programme.

The website has the aim of the Prathistan, motto, activities and details of projects. Roshan Lasrado, vice president of Paldane pastoral council has designed it.

Milagres parish priest Fr Valerian D' Souza, Catholic Sabha central committee president Anil Lobo (Mangaluru) and Valerian Fernandes (Udupi) were the guests.

Prathistan vice president Fr Walter D'Mello welcomed. Secretary L J Fernandes proposed vote of thanks. Treasurer Elroy Kiran Crasto was present. Flora Castelino and Sweeny D' Souza compered the programme.

Felicitations to 168 students:

As many as 168 students in Mangaluru and Udupi diocese who secured excellent marks in SSLC and PUC examinations and ranks in degree examinations were felicitated with prizes on the occasion.

“There were several Catholics in high positions in the government about two or three decades ago. Their number is decreasing these days. It is not proper to neglect government jobs and getting attracted towards jobs in the Gulf and other countries. Talented students should come forward to join government departments,” said Dr Richard Vincent D'Souza.

Thirthahalli JMFC court Senior Civil Judge and judicial magistrate Reshma Jane Rodrigues said that there are several opportunities that can be grabbed by talented. “Candidates should select the area of their interest,” she said.
