Bengaluru, Mar 19: Former chief minister and union minister for statistics and programme implementation D V Sadananda Gowda compared Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Bhasmasura on Saturday, March 18 here.
Bhasmasura is a demon in Hindu mythology.
Gowda was specifically referring to the speculation in political circles about like-minded opposition parties forming a coalition to check the surge of the BJP in the country. “Rahul Gandhi is like Bhasmasura. Those who go with him will be reduced to ashes. The JD(S) will face the same consequences if the party decides to join hands with the Congress leader in the coming days,” he told reporters here.
“We have seen what happened to the Congress-SP coalition in Uttar Pradesh. Those who go with Rahul Gandhi will face the same consequences,” he added explaining about the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP and Congress alliance debacle in the recently held UP Assembly elections.
"A section of the electorate in Nanjangudu Assembly constituency is of the view that JD(S) willingly sent Kalale Keshavamurthy to Congress to fight BJP’s V Srinivas Prasad in the upcoming by-election. The sinking Congress is desperately trying to hold on to whatever it gets. It appears that JD(S) too wants that alliance.” he concluded.
