Bengaluru: War of words breaks out between MP Simha, DIG Roopa on IPS transfers

Bengaluru, Mar 18: A remark made by MP, Pratap Simha, about four IPS officers from the state 'migrating' to central service on deputation, gave rise to exchange of some terse words between the MP and DIG (prisons), Roopa D Moundgil.

Pratap Simha, in his Facebook post on March 14, mentioned that four IPS officers were moving to the centre to serve there, as they did not got good posting in Karnataka. He specifically mentioned about IGP, Madhukar Shetty, and Sonia Narang, deputy commissioner of police, Labhu Ram, and Kaushalendra Kumar.

Two days later, Roopa hit back at him, asking him not to politicize bureaucracy, and allow the officers to do their job. She also said that the MP's opinion was a figment of his own imagination. She opined that it would not be good to try to project some persons as heroes, as many people including constables work behind the doors for investigations.

People came up with hundreds of comments on both sides. Simha said on Friday, speaking to media persons, that he had just re-posted a post made by a private news channel in social website. He also said that he had on many occasions, supported officials posted for handling law and order situations.

A day later, Facebook removed her post. Roopa then put up another status exclaiming the ridiculousness of the act by Facebook. "This is ridiculous! My fb post countering honorable MP Pratap Simha s views has disappeared! Dear Facebook, this is not fair (sic)," she said in her post.

She then put up another post titled 'Why the views of honourable MP Pratap Simha are so very wrong and dangerous', in which, addressing MP Pratap Simha, she said, "I earnestly request you to let the bureaucracy be to itself free from political endorsements. Because, politicisation of bureaucracy does not help the system and society in the long run. I know these officers personally - the ones you have mentioned in your facebook post/twitter and I can vouch that none of them have raised any hue and cry about political harassment whatsoever (sic)."

    Dont understand why the DIG of prisons should follow and comment on the comments of a politician of the opposition and act as an agent of her collegues unless appointed by her collegues and the govt as their agent. Does she expect the govt. to pat her on the back and remove her from loss making DIG prisons post and shift her to lucarative Bangalore posting? All of her collegues though are the finest officers Karnataka cadre has and do not need agents to justify their capabilities. The public are well versed with them.

    Politicisation of Bureaucracy is not at all acceptable. However most of the bureaucrats are not corrupt and have no respect for common man as there is no element of accountability hence we find only red tapism, when we enter any government office. If you don't pay under the table, most of the offices you struggle to get your work done, though you are entitled.
    There needs to be a check and balance. To start with so called all such "Hard working honest bureaucrats," should come forward with voluntarily disclosure of their properties before joining the service and current one. Meanwhile Politicians to declare their income/asset every year commencing from political career.
    There is also Political pressure on a very small number of honest officers who refuse to fall in line. There should be legal provision to check unwanted undue political pressure.

    It is time that the politicians stop running various departments. In this particular case the duly appointed Director General of Police should be sole authority to decide about transfers and relocations.

    If the D.G.P. finds it proper he will make recommendations cum decisions. Only this way can people holding responsible positions would perform every act of theirs to perfection.

    IPS, IAS, IFS Officers is erm is upto 60 years. But wheras these MPs MLA's their term is for only for 5 years. May be they are elected for 2nd term it is not known. The politicians politics like bubble. Anytime they can explode and they will be no more. So the politicians should not show their audaciity unneccessarily. Serve ppeople in a better way. Dont go for such politics as you are digging your own pit.

    Over confident journalist....may not care the damage to police peoples moral damage! People should support DIG and show politicians their respective place, though MP's are capable of transferring government officers at will as a revenge, be it any political party! God save honest officers from politicians attrocity!!

    If it was a Congress MP, then BJP would have made a big issue out of it. And that's the way it should be...I appreciate BJP leaders for it. That is the reason why Modi is winning elections. Anupama Shenoy case is an example.

    Sanghi politicians think that they need such officers who help them to enact fascist dictats at the govt institutions like murdering musthafa kavoor in mysore jail or madoor yousuf in mangalore jail with the help of concerned offecials. Eventhough sixty percant chaddies are in police force as the mangalorean chaddies said recently the karnataka police still confronted the sanghi elements effectively.

    Similarly, the words 'Prime Minister' and 'stupid' led to an article on Reuters titled Why work with India’s new leader? It’s the economy, stupid. The presence of the keyword word 'stupid' in the headline along with an article on why the US should care more about India is the reason we see PM Modi's picture in the search results.
