Udupi, Mar 17: The members of the Udupi unit of the Postal Employees Associations’ Joint Action Committee, staged a protest in front of the head post office here on Thursday, March 16.
The protest demanded the rectification of loopholes in the recommendations of the 7th pay commission and a re-examination of the same by the government.
B Vijay Nayari, president of the state executive of the union said, "There are many loopholes in the seventh commission report. The government should re-examine them. Employees are demanding an increase in remuneration and revision of 'release fitment' formulas."
The government should consider all rural postal employees as permanent workers and provide all benefits and allowances in addition to that. Former promises and demands are still pending. After understanding the functioning of the whole system, a demonstration was felt necessary," Vijay said.
The communique by the association enlisted demands to be addressed and fulfilled by the central government. The main highlight of the communique was the cancellation of PF, RDA Act and the new pension system and instead bring in an equal pension system and family pension.
Equal wages and facilities for daily, contract-based and provisional workers by making them permanent employees were advocated in the communique. The government should stop privatisation by outsourcing work on a contract-basis, it said.
