Mangaluru: Hippopotamus joins inmates of Pilikula Biological Park

Mangaluru, Mar 17: Pilikula Biological Park in the outskirts of the city added a new animal to its impressive group of animals. A hippopotamus arrived at the park from Bannerghatta Biological Park on Thursday March 16. It is gathered that the lone hippo that has arrived now will get two more companions within a week.

The hippopotamus now received happens to be from Africa. It is aged 10.5 years and weighs around two tonnes. Its name is Kaveri.

Under the scheme of exchanging of animals between biological parks, Pilikula Bilogical Park will be receiving a total of three hippos, a female tiger, a Hanuman female monkey, as well as ten night heron birds. From Pilikula, a male tiger, a Hanuman male monkey, eight golden foxes, a tree duck, a jungle fowl, and a wild sheep are being sent to Bannerghatta in exchange thereof, said director of the park, Jayaprakash Bhandary.

    That's good news. The arrival of the hippopotamus at Pilikula Biological Park will be a added attraction to the park. It has come at the right time when schools will have their summer vacation. Thanks Daiji for the pictures.

    Glad to see another addition at pilikula ..The pilikula team is doing a great job ...I am sure they can do more by adding more animals and raising it to a International standard zoo

    Pilikula Biological park should be upgraded to a big Zoo and different variety of animals from the world over should be brought in.
