Rio de Janeiro, Mar 16 (IANS): A second-half goal from veteran Uruguayan forward Santiago Silva gave Chile's Universidad Catolica a 1-0 home victory over Flamengo in the Copa Libertadores football tournament.
Silva broke the deadlock in the 75th minute on Wednesday when he headed in from a Jose Fuenzalida set piece at the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium in Santiago, reports Xinhua news agency.
The Brazilian outfit were reduced to 10 men when their Colombia international forward Orlando Berrio was shown a straight red card for a crude tackle on Alfonso Parot with six minutes left.
The result lifted Universidad to the top of Group D with four points from two matches while Flamengo dropped to third with three points.
Brazil's Atletico Paranaense moved to second in the group after their 1-0 victory at San Lorenzo.
In Wednesday's other matches, Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras beat Bolivia's Jorge Wilstermann 1-0 at home while Venezuela's Zulia secured a shock 1-0 away victory over three-time Copa Libertadores champions Nacional of Uruguay.
