Bengaluru, Mar 16: Two farmers from the state ended their lives, having been frustrated at the fact that the chief minister, Siddaramaiah, failed announce any scheme to waive farm loans when presenting the state budge on Wednesday March 15.
Prakash, a farmer from T Malligere village in Mandya district, hanged himself from a tree in his field on Wednesday. His family sources said he was devastated by the fact that no relief was in sight from the government to clear the burden of outstanding loans.
Cheluve Gowda (68) resident of Natanahalli village near Hemagiri in K R Pet taluk of Mysuru district killed himself by jumping into fire. It is gathered that Gowda was expecting announcement of loan waiver scheme by the chief minister during budget presentation. He had three and half acres of agricultural land, against which he had borrowed one lac rupees from local primary land development bank apart from private loans running into lacs of rupees. His wife, Parvathamma, in a complaint filed in K R Pet police station, said that Cheluve Gowda torched the fence of his property and jumped into the fire.
