Bengaluru, Mar 15: Former chief minister S M Krishna has put off his programme of joining the BJP following the death of his sister.
S M Krishna, also a former union minister, had quit the Congress on January 28 and planned to join BJP on March 15 in New Delhi in the presence of BJP chief Amit Shah. He had already reached New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in the scheduled programme.
But Krishna received a message on Tuesday night that his sister Sunitha passed away. Then he decided to return to Bengaluru immediately.
Sources said that Krishna may join BJP after a week.
Krishna was supposed to hold some consultations with Amit Shah on Tuesday. But the meeting could not take place since Shah had to attend Manohar Parrikar’s swearing-in ceremony in Goa.
Even the scheduled programme on Wednesday was not certain as Shah is scheduled to attend the BJP government’s installation programme in Manipur. Meanwhile BJP Karnataka announced on Tuesday that Krishna would join the party either on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning depending upon Shah’s availability.
During this time Krishna’s sister passed away prompting him to return to Bengaluru. The 84 years old veteran had 50 years association with Congress.
