Udupi, Mar 11: Expressing happiness over Congress victory in Punjab, and responding to the BJP's landslide wins in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, minister for fisheries and youth empowerment and district in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj said that BJP had failed to achieve its hidden agenda of making the nation free of Congress party.
Addressing mediapersons on Saturday, March 11, he said, "BJP's dreams of Congress-mukt Bharat are shattered. They were unsuccessful in Punjab, Goa and Manipur and could manage victories only in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
"Congress has to take this verdict seriously. Party workers have to work hard in order to strengthen the party from the ground level. I would like to congratulate the people of Punjab, Goa and Manipur, who supported Congress."
Speaking on demonetisation, Madhwaraj said that the public does not realise the impact of the note ban. "It will take a certain amount of time for a big impact. According to one of the economists, demonetisation has pushed the country 10 years back in economic development. At present, people think that demonetisation will effect only the rich, but it is sure that even the poor will feel its effect in the future."
Expressing confidence about Congress' victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections next year, the minister said, "Congress has to concentrate more on states where Hindi is a primary language. The party has to fix all its loopholes to face the elections next year. Congress' victory in Goa will have its effects in Belagavi too. Congress will definitely win with a clear majority in Karnataka."
