Madrid, Mar 10 (IANS): Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres, who was discharged from hospital a week ago after being knocked unconscious at the Estadio Riazor stadium during the football match against Deportivo La Coruña, said he is now fine and eager to join his teammates on the field soon.
In an interview posted on Atletico Madrid's official website on Thursday, Torres said: "Well, well. I am doing very well. It was a big fright for all, probably least for me because I don't remember of the moment of the blow until I recovered consciousness at hospital, but I understand the magnitude of what happened when I see the video in real time," reports Efe.
Torres was taken to hospital after sustaining an alarming head injury during the 1-1 draw against Deportivo, after colliding with Alex Bergantiños as they both went to head the ball.
"I suppose they were endless minutes for all the people who love me, as my wife, my parents and my brothers, who were watching it live. I understand the shock they got," he continued.
"But we have to be happy because it could have been much worse. Now, we have to forget about it and think of what comes next and try to be with my teammates as soon as possible on the field," he added.
On the next phase of the season, Torres confirmed that "everything is decided" during the final stretch of the season, and emphasised that the team is still eager to win the Champions League.
Torres was named the best player of the month in February by Rojiblancos fans.
