The PBS will consist of 450 cycles at 48 docking stations located across the city to encourage non-motorised transport.
The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) is introducing the system for the first time in Mysuru with support from agencies such as the Mysuru City Corporation and the World Bank’s Global Environment Facility (GEF) fund.
The basic components of the system include bicycles, docking stations, smartcard infrastructure, PBS management system, shifting vehicles, central control centre and a maintenance centre.
Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig told reporters that Mysuru Race Course, Kukkarahalli Lake, Mysuru Palace, Chamundi Hills, Lashakar Mohalla bus-stand are among the places where the new system would be launched.
He, however, said the user charge has not yet been decided.
