Tokyo stocks drop on falling commodities' prices

Tokyo, Feb 27 (IANS): Tokyo stocks dropped from the bell on Monday as a fall in commodities' prices coupled with a firm yen against the US dollar dented early investor sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 164.99 points, or 0.86 per cent, from Friday to 19,118.55, Xinhua news agency reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 14.08 points, or 0.91 per cent, to 1,536.06.

On the main section, all industry categories retreated from the bell into negative territory, with notable decliners comprising mining, security, and oil and coal product-linked stocks.
