Muscat: MCCP's Sport Day celebration a grand success

Muscat, Feb 26: Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP), Muscat conducted Sports Day at Muscat College indoor stadium recently.

The event which was held on February 17 was conducted as part of the 25 programmes which the Silver Jubilee Executive Committee of the year had planned. The Team 25 is headed by Dilip Correa, president of MCCP for the current year.







































































































































































The events of the day were distributed into 3 major parts. Volleyball for Men, throwball for ladies and fun sports for members. The entire event was meticulously planned and executed by Jessie Pereira, vice-president, sports and finance and Lynel Lobo, sports secretary.

The programme commenced at 9am with an inaugural programme conducted by Lavina D’sa, vice-president, Spiritual, Cultural and Community services. Melita Alva, general secretary lead the gathering with a prayer. Dilip Correa, president, welcomed the gathering. The inaugural of the event was conducted by releasing the volleyball tied to the net.

Dolly Gomes, a very vibrant and well-known sports personality of the Managalorean community played a key role in forming the teams and organising the entire sports events.

Nine teams competed in the volleyball tournament for men. The triumphant winners to bag the rolling shield for the winners were Lynel Lobo and team, while Sachin Lobo and team bagged the runners-up trophy.

The women of the community very enthusiastically participated in the throwball tournament. As many as seven teams were formed. The final match saw a nail-biting finish in which Jessie Pereira and team emerged victorious, while Sandra Correa and team were declared the runners-up.

Sandra Menezes was awarded the best throw ball player and Glen Monis was awarded the best volleyball player.

MCCP was privileged to have Gautam Raj, a lead player in volley ball, representing many tournaments conducted in Oman and a University level player as well, as the referee for the tournament.

Jason Cardoza, cultural secretary and Russel D’souza, amused the audience with their commentary for the matches. Ashok Pinto was the score keeper. Shailesh Sequeira, a very young and talented youth of the community provided the sounds for the day.

Fun sports were conducted by Jason Cardoza for adults and Lavina D’Sa for kids, where the entire audience present irrespective of their age had a good time. The gathering was divided into four teams for the fun sports and it was headed by Trescilla Menezes, internal auditor, Sachin Lobo, Community Services secretary, Naveen Mascarenhas, spiritual secretary and Melita Alva, general secretary.

The prize distribution ceremony was conducted at the end of the day. Stanley Fernandes and Donald Pinto along with Jessie Pereira and Dilip Correa presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up respectively. Ashok Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.
 
The prizes for the crib competition and cooking without fire contest were also distributed during the event. Gift bags were distributed to all those who participated in the day’s events.
