Chamarajanagar, Feb 25: Relating to the murder of a newly-married lady, Divya, at Dhanagere village in Kollegal taluk in the district, her husband, Venkatesh Murthy, and his three brothers stand arrested.
Divya from Dhanagere had married Venkatesh Murthy from Nagavalli, who works as police constable at Rajarajeshwarinagara police station at Bengaluru. As dowry, two lac rupees by way of cheque, 60 grams gold ornaments, Rs 20,000 worth of wrist watch and clothes were given during the marriage.
After the marriage, Venkatesh had visited the house of his father-in-law and pressurized the family for payment of Rs 50,000 in the form of additional dowry. Frustrated at the turning down of his demand, he allegedly led Divya on Wednesday February 22 to the farmhouse and pushed her into a well there.
Elder brother of Divya, Siddaraju, had filed a complaint at the rural police station here, alleging that Venkatesh Murthy had killed his sister with the support of elder brother, Mahadeva Shetti, and younger brothers, Nagaswamy and Raghu, for dowry. The police have arrested all four, after which the court remanded them to judicial custody.
