Bengaluru, Feb 22: Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala expressed concern over fossil fuel-driven economic growth and urged the economically developed countries are responsible for it. The rising temperatures will have a direct inhibitory effect on the yield that farmers grow.
Inaugurating the 'XIII Agricultural Science Congress' at Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) in Bengaluru on Tuesday, he said "Global warming is the result of fossil fuel-driven economic growth and the rising temperatures will have a direct inhibitory effect on the yield that farmers grow. Central and state governments should support and encourage people who do research in various fields to redress the situation."
The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), here in co-ordination with National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi organised the 'XIII Agricultural Science Congress' on the theme Climate Smart Agriculture held at Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad International Convention Centre, UAS, GKVK.
The governor presented the NAAS Awards and unveiled the website and also released the publications of UAS.
State agriculture minister Krishna Byregowda, Dr T Mohapatra, secretary DARE & amp; DG, ICAR. New Delhi, Dr Panjab Singh, president, NAAS, New Delhi and Dr H Shivanna, vice chancellor, UAS were present at the function.
