Tokyo, Feb 21 (IANS): Tokyo stocks rose from the bell on Tuesday as the yen's retreat against the US dollar added support, although many investors took a wait-and-see-approach as markets were closed in the US for a national holiday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 46.31 points, or 0.24 per cent, from Monday to 19,297.39, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 2.79 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 1,549.80.
Notable issues that gained from the bell comprised pulp and paper, mining and machinery-linked issues.
