Puttur, Feb 20: After the police found the mortal remains of a man inside a Tata Indica car that was abandoned by the roadside at Nekkilady near here due to the seizure of its engine, continues to be shrouded in mystery. The police personnel have failed to establish the identity of the deceased.

The body was completely decomposed when found. As such, its identity has posed a challenge. Neither the cellphone nor any other thing that can give a clue about the identity or native place of the man were found at the spot.

Jeans cotton trousers, full shirt with designs and black shoe were found on the body. On the basis of this, it was concluded that the body belonged to a young man. Rs 21 in cash and tickets issued on February 12 by KSRTC for travel from Ullal to Mangaluru and again from Mangaluru to Panemangaluru, as well as Melkar to Uppinangady were found. Therefore, it is felt that the man was alive till February 12. A wrist watch and a mini torch were found with the body.

The Indica car in which the body was found was lying by the roadside in an abandoned state after the seizure of its engine two years back. It is unlikely that a man will come looking for the car and get seated inside. Moreover, the body does not seem to be belonging to a local. Therefore, chances of murder appear to be bright.

As Uppinangady police circle inspector is on leave. Investigation has now been taken up by the police circle inspector of the town police station here.
