Mangaluru, Feb 16: Chief whip of Karnataka Legislative assembly Ivan D’Souza on Thursday, February 16 urged the Income Tax department to file a case suo motu against former chief minister Yeddyurappa for misusing IT department's name and falsely accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of paying Rs 1,000 crore bribe to Congress high command.
Addressing media persons at his office in Mangaluru City Corporation, Ivan said, "Yeddyurappa is misuing the name of IT department and the Enforcement Directorate to prove his point. He has no relevant document to prove the Rs 1000 crore bribe charge against the CM. Yeddyurappa spoke about an alleged dairy seized at MLC Govindaraju's residence by IT sleuths recently. He also said that Govindaraju paid the amount to part high command in Delhi. He says everything, but has no evidence to prove what he says".
"Yeddyurappa said that it was the money from the steel project which was paid in Delhi. He also said that the information came to him from the IT department. For his kind information, the IT department deals with certain issues in a secret manner. They have to be 100 per cent sure before coming out in the open. They send notice and inquire the accused. The IT department has not said anything about any bribe issue. How could Yeddyurappa access the IT and Enforcement Directorate’s documents? That means, Yeddyurappa is simply misuing the government machinery for his personal benefit. He has no evidence for any of his allegations. It seems like Yeddyurappa has turned the IT department's spokesperson. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also speaking about the alleged bribe in his speeches all over India without knowing the truth. The IT department should sue Yeddyurappa for his actions," he said.
Commenting on the raids taking place on Congress politicians' properties, Ivan said that the IT department is being used by the central government to target the ruling government in Karnataka. "Congress elected representatives are being targeted. None of the BJP members' properties are being raided by the IT department. This is nothing but to malign Congress party's image in the state," he alleged.
"BJP doesnt speak about the financial emergency due to demonetisation. People are not able to withdraw more than Rs 24,000 a week. BJP does not speak about its failures. They has no right to speak about corruption. The CD released on Monday revealed that BJP leaders had mobilised resources for BJP high command when the party was in power in the State. Let PM Modi look into te case. BJP is busy doing hit-and-run politics. There is not even an aounce of truth in BJP's allegations. All BJP does is plotting against the ruling Congress party. They cannot bear the sucess of Congress in the state. And now, BJP is using the government agencies for its own benefit," he concluded.
