Mumbai, Feb 15 (IANS): The key Indian equity indices plummeted on Wednesday afternoon following disappointing corporate earnings.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) was trading 181.38 points or 0.64 per cent lower during the afternoon trade.
The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 61.95 points or 0.70 per cent lower at 8,730.35 points.
The Sensex of the BSE, which opened at 28,270.11 points, was trading at 28,157.93 points (at 1.20 p.m.), lower 181.38 points or 0.64 per cent from the previous day's close at 28,339.31 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 28,382.32 points and a low of 28,107.51 points in the trade so far.
Almost all the sectors were trading in the red and heavy selling pressure was observed in realty, auto and industrials sectors.
The S&P BSE realty index plunged by 3.24 per cent, auto sector dropped by 2.67 per cent and industrials sector fell by 2.73 per cent.
