Kundapur, Feb 9: The state high court (HC), on Wednesday February 8, stayed the notification issued by the state government, bringing Sri Brahmi Durgaparameshwari temple at Kamalashile in the taluk under Right to Information Act. The temple had approached the HC, arguing that the assistant commissioner of muzrai department had no right to bring this temple under RTI Act.
The temple had said that the officer can act only as per Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act. The single judge bench of the HC presided over by Justice A S Bopanna granted stay against the said order, and ordered service of notice to the state government and state information commission.
The temple's contention is that it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the state muzrai department and hence the state government has no power to bring it under the purview of information act. The temple managing committee has sought quashing of the government order relating to this issue.
