Udupi, Feb 7: Cosmopolitan Higher Primary School, Brahmavar celebrated its centenary on Saturday, February 4. Fr C A Issac, president of OSC education institution, Brahmavar presided over the programme.
District in charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj addressing the gathering said, "These days, Kannada medium schools are closing down, who is responsible for this? Even interviews take place in English. That is the tragedy of this nation. Indians were the slaves of British Empire till 1947, now we are under the influence of English language."
"The literal meaning of 'Cosmopolitan' is, people of different cultures living under one roof. Those who have grown up in such an atmosphere will not have fear for life."
There is no real retirement for teaching as a profession or for teachers. The dignity of the job remains the same unlike other professions," said minister Madhwaraj
Madhwaraj also extended his support for the betterment of the school.
Rajshekhar Hebbar C, the principal, Government Degree College, Mangaluru said, "Physical shape is acquired at birth through parents, but there is a second birth where teachers shape life. Teachers are living representatives of God. India needs more teachers who are dedicated and committed professionally."
A cultural programme followed the stage function, where students danced and enacted a play. Manjunath Kundeshwar, with his mimicry, tickled the funny bone of the young and old.
Donors and the retired teachers were facilitated on occasion. The headmaster of the school Sumitra presented the annual report. Nityananda B R, executive president hoisted the flag.
