Bengaluru, Feb 4: In an all-members meeting of the Karnataka Media Academy, chaired by president M Siddaraju on February 3, the academy decided to honour selected journalists for their contribution in the field of journism in 2016. This will take place during the academy's annual programme.
“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other respected dignitaries are invited to conduct the awards ceremony”, said M Siddaraju.

15 journalists will be felicitated with a cash award of Rs 20,000 and a plaque. The journalists selected for the award are -

2.Shantala Dharmaraj, Samyuktha Karnataka – Mysuru
3.G Veeranna, Vijayavani – Ballari
4.Siddiqui Aldoori, Senior Journalist – Chikkamagaluru
5.Ronald Fernandes, Deccan Herald – Mangaluru
6.Cheeni Purushotham, Udayavani – Tumkur
7.A C Prabhakr, Mysure Mitra – Chamarajanagar
8.Ujjini Rudrappa, Kannada Prabha – Koppal
9.Hemanthkumar, Indian Express – Bengaluru

Keeping in mind, the record of writing of last year, awards for different categories will be given out. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each. The awards and awardees for 2016 are -
'Andolana' award, which is given to the most remarkable district newspaper, is bagged by Shivamogga Times,Shivamogga.
'Abhimani' award , for the best writing on 'social issues', is won by Chandrashekar More from Udayavani for his work titled 'Sankastadalli Kaujalagi Ningamma Parijatha Company'.
'Mysuru Diganta' award, presented to a writer of 'humanitarian issues', will be given to C G Rajiv from Vijaya Karnataka for his work titled 'Enne Nammooranne Nasha Madtha ide'.
'Aragini' Award, for best cinematic journalism, will be presented to Snehapriya Nagaraj.
Dr B R Ambedkar Mookanayaka award, for the columnist who has exceptional writing on downtrodden-community in the last year, will be given to Dr Nataraj Huliar.
