Kolkata, Feb 3 (IANS): With the central government making it clear that honest tax-payers should never be harassed, the Income-Tax department has been mandated to pull up its socks and come across as an easy, hassle-free and digital-friendly unit, an official said Thursday.
"Not only is the department keeping a close watch on the collections on an hourly basis, it has been asked to closely monitor grievances. Everything is being monitored centrally through digital devices," said S.K. Dash, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Kolkata III).
"Public grievances are one of the primary concern areas apart from collections," he said at an event - the Budget Impact Analysis - organised by CII in association with PwC.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been able to create a mechanism which will motivate the public to come forward and become tax compliant instead of taxmen running after them, said Dash, adding that there is no basis to apprehend that people will be summoned to tax departments and subjected to harassment.
