Havana, Feb 2 (IANS): Amid diplomatic uncertainties, American Airlines, one of the world's biggest carriers, has inaugurated a ticket office in Havana, a media report said.
"This is very prominent because we are the first American company licensed by the Cuban Chamber of Commerce which has allowed us to have this facility," Galo Beltran, the airline representative told Xinhua news agency.
American Airlines which opened the ticket office in Miramar on Wednesday, will operate its own office with its own airline employees, he said.
The airline has been one of the leaders in direct regular commercial flights from the US to Cuba after the administration of former US President Barack Obama loosened restrictions on travel to the Caribbean nation.
"We don't have any fears at the moment although we don't know what could happen in the coming months," Beltran said on the recent diplomatic fallout between the two nations.
"Nonetheless we can adapt to any change that could come in order to continue serving Cuba," he added .
US President Donald Trump has said he would reverse Obama's Cuba policy if Havana doesn't make political concessions.
Air carriers have begun lobbying in Washington for maintaining the existing flights to Cuba amid uncertainties over the new US administration's future policies.
The American Airlines has been serving six destinations in the island since September 2016.
In August 2016, JetBlue Airways became the first airline in 55 years to have regular direct commercial flights between the US and Cuba when its plane landed in Santa Clara.
A Cuba-US deal reached in 2016 allows up to 110 daily flights between several US cities and 10 Cuban international airports.
