Saudi Arabia: Habib XI emerge winners of Jotun Cup BBCL Tourney

Saudi Arabia, Jan 30: In the last week of the first edition of Jotun Cup BBCL Tournament, Indomie had a consolation win over AVK by 8 wickets. Babar was awarded Man of the Match for his unbeaten 31 runs.

In the First Qualifier played between Habib XI and Young Star, Young Star opted to bat first and managed a score of 105/9 in their allotted 10 overs. Irfan Nazir was the top scorer with 41 runs. Amir picked 2 wickets. Habib XI chased the score of 106 runs in 10 overs and pulled off a thrilling win in the last over when Ahmed Rizvi Jungi hit a six on the fifth ball when 6 runs were required off 2 balls and thus took his team to the finals. He remained unbeaten on 54. Adnan Liaqat picked 3 wickets. Ahmed Rizvi Jungi was awarded the Zam Zam Man of the Match.

In the Eliminator played between A L J Toshiba and Lothers, A L J Toshiba outclassed Lothers C C and won the match by 44 runs. Batting first, A L J Toshiba scored 133/6 in 10 overs thanks to the excellent batting performance by Mohammed Aamir who scored 62 runs. Shibu picked 3 wickets. Chasing 134, Lothers could manage only 93/7 in 10 overs losing the match by 40 runs. Aftab Ahmed took 3 wickets. Mohammed Amir was awarded the Zam Zam Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 62 runs.

In the Second Qualifier played between Young Star and A L J Toshiba, A L J Toshiba defeated Young Star to win by 8 wickets and entered the finals. Young Stars were restricted to 75/9 in 10 overs thanks to superb bowling performance by Ali Khan 2/14 and Amjed Jutt 2/10. In reply, A L J Toshiba chased down the target of 76 runs in just 5 overs losing 2 wickets with Sham’s blistering knock of 41 runs in just 15 balls with 5 towering sixes. Aamir remained unbeaten on 23. The Man of the Match was awarded to Shams.

In the Grand Finale between Habib XI and A L J Toshiba played on the following day, Habib XI won the toss and elected to bat first compiling a solid total of 166/3 in 12 overs. Ahmed Rizvi Jungi once again anchored Habib XI innings and hammered 60 runs in 29 balls with 6 sixes along with Samiullah 37 runs as the duo added 100 runs for the first wicket. Abdul Wahid coming in at number 3 did further damage to A L J Toyota by scoring a quick-fire 39 not out in just 15 balls with 6 sixes. In reply, A L J Toshiba lost Bilal early in the first over who was clean bowled by Ibrar followed by their inform batsmen Shams and Amir Gujjar. A L J Toshiba never recovered from the early blows and finished at 86/9 in their 12 overs thus handing over an easy 80 runs victory to Habib XI. Ahmed Rizvi Jungi was named the Zam Zam Man of the Match.

Prize distribution function started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Uzair Ahmed. Muzammil Riyaz in his inaugural speech congratulated the Winners and runners up. Faisal Kareem (marketing manager- Jotun Paints) was the chief guest. Khaleequr Rahman (senior Congress leader) congratulated the winners, runners-up and the participating teams and lauded the BBCL organizing committee and volunteers for their efforts in organizing such an event. Nayeem Khan (A L J Toshiba), Syed Akbar Abdul Hadi(sales manager- Indomie), Ali Irshad Ahmed (Zam Zam Restaurant, Tahliyah), Sayed Majaz Quadri(CEO – Dunes Academy), Abdul Muthalib (Bin Fahd Engineering) and Mohammed Bin Mahfouz applauded the efforts of BBCL organizing committee for successfully organizing the Corporate League for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. M Ayazuddin in his speech had special thanks for the sponsors and the media for their everlasting support and encouragement for the organizers and the game of cricket. Service Awards were given to Syed Afzal, Mujtaba Qureishi, Irfan Dayyani, Rabbani, Mehmood, Shareef and Naushad.

The winner and runner-up team members were awarded individual medals.
