Mangaluru, Jan 25: Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), is geared up to organize its 21st District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Ujire from January 27 to 29, president of KSP, Pradeep Kalkura disclosed on January 24.
Addressing the media he said, "The sammelana will be organized at the premises of Janardhana Temple, Krishna Padvetnaya auditorium and Dharmasthala Manjaya Hall. On January 27, the sammelana will kick off with a Kannada Bhuvaneshwari proccession which will be inaugurated by president of taluk panchayat, Shashidhar, in the presence of Fr Joseph Mascarenhas and Sridhar Poojary. The sammelana will be formally inaugurated by president of Kannada Sahitya Acedamy, Malathi Pattana Shetty, presided over by district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai. B Yashovarma, Pradeep Kalkura, MLA Vasanth Bangera will grace the occasion."
"On January 28, a poetry meet, hasya ghosti will be held and a children's Sahitya Sammelana will be conducted at Indraprastha indoor stadium. As many as 50 individuals who have made outstanding contributions in various fields will be felicitated on the occasion. Among them are Sara Aboobakkar (literature), Ullala Mohan Kumar (dance), Nithyananda Karantha Polali (Yakshagana artiste), Eknath Shetty (soldier), Surendra Wagle (media), Dr Vishwanath Nayak (medicine) and others will be felicitated.
"On January 29, writer U Maheshwari will speak on Women- folk literature and various sessions will be organized. The sammelana will conclude on January 29 chaired by Dharmasthala Dharmadikaari, Dr Veerendra Hegde in the presence of Pradeep Kalkura, minister for food and civil supplies, U T Khader and zilla panchayat CEO, Dr K R Ravi.
When asked about the Kambala ban, Ramanath Rai said, "Congress has given its full fledged support to protect the traditional sport. The government has also been supportive from the beginning and will pressurize the centre to be supportive too."
President of SDM Educational Institute, Dr B Yashovarma, additional deputy commissioner Kumar and others were present.
